Thoughts from Sandie

I think I blinked and missed January, it’s already February with Valentine’s day and Pancake day. We raised an amazing £70 in our January raffle and an amazing £110 in the collection tin.  Thank you so much for your generosity, it takes a little stress away from me in raising funds for our fabulous club.

We have had a few new members over the last few months, and it is lovely to see them coming back each week. We have a fun filled February, which I hope you all enjoy.

Why do we come to the ‘Alzheimers drop in’?

Well, the obvious answer is that one of us suffers from dementia and the other is a carer.  Sounds straightforward doesn’t it, particularly since we get help from the NHS and the Alzheimers society, but as everyone will know these services are always stretched and with the current industrial relations strife it is not always easy to make contact. However, every Thursday morning at Christ Church Centre in Stone we are able to meet up with people who are travelling the same road as us.  Believe me, nothing happens to us that hasn’t happened to one or all of the others and that at least is both reassuring and uplifting.

Most of us like to sit in the same seat near our friends and therefore try and arrive before 10am where we are greeted with a warm welcome and friendly banter from Martin and Don who bring refreshments carefully prepared by the lovely Sandra and Cynthia. Later Ethnie, Tony and Eve circulate with warmth and a hug, if appropriate. Most weeks we have entertainment for about an hour which includes ‘sing along’ and dancing, but do not worry it is not obligatory.

I have mentioned previously the links that we have found with some friends, and we have also managed to also become good friends with Ann and Malcom as well as Diane and George.
